An earnings call is a scheduled conference, usually quarterly, where a company management discusses its latest financial results with investors and analysts. It typically includes prepared remarks followed by a question-and-answer session. The call offers context and color that the raw numbers alone do not.

Listen to or read the transcript to understand how management explains results, what they expect ahead, and how they handle tough analyst questions. Pay attention to tone, changes in guidance, and recurring themes. The stock often moves on the call as much as on the reported numbers, especially when management forecasts surprise the market.

After reporting quarterly results, a CEO might say demand is strengthening and raise full-year guidance on the call. Even if the reported quarter merely met expectations, the upbeat outlook could push the stock higher.
